Join Jeremiah Psiropoulos for a sunrise sharp-tailed grouse lekking tour near Steamboat Springs and witness one of the West’s most fascinating wildlife spectacles: the Columbian Sharp-tailed Grouse performing their spring lekking display dances.

You'll sit quietly in a photo blind with provided chairs, blankets, and hot coffee, just a short walk from the vehicle. A spotting scope is provided, and we recommend bringing your own binoculars for optimal viewing. This early-morning private tour (~4:00 AM start) offers intimate access to one of Colorado’s most iconic native birds during their peak lekking season in Routt County (mid-March through June 1).

After the lek ends, we travel to observe other native species including Dusky Grouse, Greater Sage-Grouse, Sandhill Cranes, and other wildlife, making this one of the best birdwatching tours in northwestern Colorado.

We specialize in grouse lek photography and offer personalized trips for photographers, birders, and wildlife enthusiasts. Our tours are limited to four guests to minimize disturbance and maximize your experience.

Pricing is

  • $600 for two people, with $100 per additional guest.

  • Optional lodging ($200) includes a continental breakfast and coffee.

Whether you're a birder wondering where to see sharp-tailed grouse displaying, a photographer chasing that once-in-a-lifetime shot, or simply looking for the best grouse watching tour in Colorado, this is the experience for you.

If You want to see Sharptailed grouse up close, get in contact with Colorado Grouse Tours. Jeremiah has access to a number of leks on private property and oh boy, did he deliver!!! Sharpies so close, that we could have touched them. Any other needs? Dusky grouse, no problem - Antigone wildlife Tours delivers. My warmest recommendations.
